The Painters share Single Cell Nostalgia, a new EP through via their imprint EEL Records. The Montreal band’s EP was Mixed and mastered by co-producers Josh Boguski and Michael Halls (both of Whitney K). “The EP opens “That Could Be Me”, a jangly, The Feelies-esque ode to unrequited love, driven by wiry guitars and a propulsive rhythm section. “Nameless Star” follows, twisting krautrock propulsion into interstellar power-pop. while “I Live Everywhere” channels 60s whimsy with warbled leads and sardonic wit à la Kevin Ayers. The closing “Infinity” strips things down to a tender, Yo La Tengo-like plea for remembrance”.
