Mutek Reveals First Wave of 2013 Headliners
The time has come for a first announcement leading up to MUTEK 2013! For its 14thedition, the festival has decided to shake up the tradition of announcing names in mid-March by unveiling its first crop of performers today. With renowned international musicians such as MATTHEW HERBERT, JAMIE LIDELL, JOHN TALABOT, the veteran ROBERT HOOD and Montrealer GHISLAIN POIRIER, who’ll present the world premiere of his new project, Boundary, the groundwork has been laid for a remarkable and unrivalled upcoming edition of MUTEK. The presale of passports and weekend passes – available at reduced rates and in limited quantities – begins now. Don’t miss out!
Boasting an already enviable festival roster, MUTEK 2013 is set to offer a copious itinerary teeming with powerful and varied artistic performances that ticketgoers can sink their teeth into. Over the course of 5 days, from May 29 to June 2, the public will once again be invited to brush up on first-rate discoveries and live performances by both highly anticipated emerging talents and pillars of contemporary electronic music.
Unquestionably one of the highlights of this 14th edition will be MATTHEW HERBERT’s first trip to Montreal since 2005. The prolific producer and socially conscious musician will grace us with his presence by offering festivalgoers not one, but 3 projects in North American premiere: the one-of-kind One Pig performance, which documents a pig’s entire life cycle from birth to death; a musical improvisation using a 10-second recording courtesy of a war photojournalist in Libya; and a DJ set under the WISHMOUNTAIN moniker.
Beyond well-established electronic luminaries such as JAMIE LIDELL and RYOICHI KUROKAWA, already spotlighted in previous editions and whom the festival intends to showcase in a new light this year, MUTEK 2013 will also welcome artists the Montreal public has been patiently looking forward to, such as the masterful Catalan house beatmaker JOHN TALABOT, the critically revered ANDY STOTT, long associated with British label Modern Love, and the virtuoso German pianist NILS FRAHM.
Among other noteworthy festival highlights, MUTEK’s opening night will feature a program to celebrate the 20th anniversary of mythical Cologne-based label KOMPAKT, which will most notably be represented by its perennial poster boy, MICHAEL MAYER.
The inaugural crop of artists has been confirmed, and it’s high time to share it with you:
ÂME [de] / ANDY STOTT [uK] / BOUNDARY [CA] / FRANCK VIGROUX & ANTOINE SCHMITT [FR] / JAMIE LIDELL [uK] / JOHN TALABOT [Es] / JUJU & JORDASH [NL] / MATTHEW HERBERT [uk] / MArtyn [NL] / MICHAEL MAYER [de] / NILS FRAHM [DE] / ROBERT HOOD [US] / RYOICHI KUROKAWA [JP].
MUTEK 2013’s artists reflect the very DNA of an audacious festival that operates in constant flux. Many more names will be added to this list in the weeks to come, most notably the crop of selected Canadian artists.
