Northern Transmissions has launched a monthly feature entitled Music To Assuage Your Ears, where we expose new tracks from the world of indie music, that you should be listening to. Kicking off the series is “Eden” by Avalon Emerson and the Charm.

“Eden” is a radio-made entry from DJ/producer Avalon Emerson. It announces itself with a Daft Punk beat that’s less in service of dance and more in driving the car, local dad-rock radio on. It’s bright, melodic, two parts too glossy, and not fit for the club. The surprise of the track isn’t in shifts or departures from formula, but rather its accessible pop form, with Emerson adopting a subdued Regina Spektor impersonation (“You’re still my favorite place in Eden”) over the too-sanitized beat. With 2026 approaching, the goal is increasingly to prove you are against the algorithm and the artificial. Emerson’s pop turn could use some more weirdness.
