It can be a cruel world, but Morgan Nagler has picked a great time to release her debut, I’ve Got Nothing To Lose, and I’m Losing It to help us all get through it.

“Cradle the Pain” kicks off this stunning album, which promises to be one of the best of 2026, with roaring guitars that sound like a waterfall ripping and tearing, with Nagler’s laid-back speak-sing making proclamations to “cradle the pain/it’s all the same/it’s what you make of it.” Keeping in mind the ultimate end-game goal, “Hurt” details the trials we all must suffer through on the path to love. And “Orange Wine” digs deeper into the struggles we all face getting there: “I don’t know what else to say/But it’s been on my mind,” she confesses.

A mellow middle suite of songs includes what is clearly a bit of a tribute to one of the many artists Nagler has worked with, Kim Deal, on “Hammer & Nail.” This section is highlighted by the countri-fried “Grassoline,” with Nagler joyously singing “I know Jesus ain’t gonna save me/And if he does, that would just be crazy.”

Nagler has been delaying her solo premiere by being active with her Los Angeles-based bands Whispertown and Supermoon. In some ways, her brilliant new album feels like the triumph she’s always been working towards, after starting out as child actor in Punky Brewster, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Frasier, Will & Grace, Highway to Heaven, and American Pie 2, before co-writing music with a broad pallet of indie stars like HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, and Margo Price.

The decision to produce this solo release happened naturally, with the songs, often featuring sorrowful lyrics wrapped in hopeful sounds, pouring out of Nagler in 2024 as her engagement plans fell apart.

One result is “Greetings From Mars,” which is potentially set to be the most beautiful pop song of the year. It manages to somehow be both sadly tender for the artist and a welcome respite for the listener from “following shooting stars” each and every day during a chaotic, out-of-control time in our collective history.

Ultimately, Nagler’s style of laid-back stoner pop suites her well and makes a lot of sense since Kyle Thomas of the wonderful like-minded band King Tuff produced, co-wrote, and played guitar. That vibe shines through in the goofy fun videos she has already released for at least four of the tracks.

Nagler and Thomas are joined by a crack cast that includes Allison Crutchfield, Madi Diaz, Bethany Cosentino of Best Coast, Gabe Noel, Courtney Barnett, Meg Duffy, Harrison Whitford, and Josh Adams.
