ELIO announces her debut album something in the air with love/hate will arrive via streaming services on April 19 2024. The LP was made following a 12 month break in which the artist moved to LA, Toronto, and Nashville to write alongside regular collaborators Ryan Linvill and Danny Silberstein.

Arriving just as the world was plunged into lockdown in 2020 with the prophetic “My Friends Online”, ELIO – named after Timothée Chalamet’s character in Call Me By My Name – has racked up hundreds of millions of streams, earned a tour support slot with early mentor Charli XCX and established a unique, genre-splicing sound that sits somewhere between Lorde, Caroline Polachek and the 1975. While these early sonic experiments served their purpose, igniting ELIO’s passion for exploration, it’s on her debut album that she really steps into her own, digging into her past, questions the present and muses on the future.

Speaking on the album, ELIO explains: “I’m so proud of this album, I feel like when you start releasing music it can feel daunting to think about what you want to say and sound like on your debut album. I feel like it’s the perfect time to reintroduce yourself and really dig up your life and what brought you here and what you’re feeling. The album follows the same trend, who I am, what I’ve experienced and where I am now. It’s about me and my relationships and learning how they play in my own life. It’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster, with fun songs and sad songs and reminiscing on past lives and relationships, but that’s my life and I know it’s so many other young peoples lives as well.”

For Lee, everything has been building up to this debut album. The EPs, which set out her stall and allowed her to be an independent artist, to the freedom of the mixtape. “Individual songs come and go but there’s the few albums that have really raised me and been there through whatever”.
