MICACHU & THE SHAPES … First MP3 From Never Out Today! New Shows Confirmed At Glasslands and PS1

Rough Trade announces the release of the first MP3 from Micachu & The Shapes forthcoming album Never. The track, “OK” can be heard here (MP3 listed below). The track perfectly highlights the bands ability to straddle the lines of punk rock, avant pop, underground UK Hip-Hop, and modern classical music all the while taking their deeply individual stylings into uncharted territory.

Also Micachu And The Shapes will be playing Brooklyn’s Glasslands on Monday June 4 and at a PS1 “Warm Up” show on July 28. Tickets for the Glassland’s show are currently on sale. Tickets for PS1 show will go on sale
June 18. More on that series can be found here. As previously announced in addition to those two shows Micachu & The Shapes are also supporting tUnE- yArDs on June 1 at New York City’s Terminal 5 tomorrow, Friday June 1.

Never is set to be released via Rough Trade on July 24.Self-produced it is the band’s second studio album, the first being 2009’s Jewellery which The New Yorker dubbed an “exuberant, brief and unapologetically smart album…a loveable racket, peppered with dozens of tiny, brilliant motifs.” On both albums abrupt structures, frantic rhythms and nothing less than stellar pop hooks are performed on conventional instruments and homemade invented instruments including a xylophone constructed from light bulbs, and a musical ‘cloud chamber’ made out of Pyrex dishes.

Micachu frontwoman Mica Levi is currently an artist-in-residence at London’s Southbank Centre; the youngest individual musician to be granted this unique role. Levi has also been asked to join the prestigious BBC Radiophonic Workshop. Previous members include Daphne Oram, Delia Derbyshire and George Martin.
