Mercury Rev release beauty of a video

Mercury Rev release new video for the single "Come Up For Air".

Mercury Rev have released their new video for the song “Coming Up For Air,” off their latest release The Light In You.

“Coming Up For Air” was shot in Houston and directed by Jonathan Caquette who is best known for his documentary Tarnation. He said of the video, “I am so proud and geeked out to …be able to do something for Mercury Rev, who I have adored for many years. The music video for “Coming Up For Air,” is just one part of a mildly bigger project to come…and it’s been one of the utmost coolest music video/films that I have ever had an opportunity to work on. The video as a whole is inspired by one part, my love for this made for TV movie from the 1970’s called The Bermuda Depths and one part Sigmund Freud’s existential requiem, “On Transience.” I feel like the end result is on par to something kind of cool & ambiguous and hallucinatory-like.”

The Light In You is Mercury Rev’s first with Bella Union and is also the first with only Jonathan and Grasshopper at the controls, as scheduling conflicts and travel between the Catskills and Dave Fridmann’s Tarbox studio became too great to overcome. Surrounded by longtime friends such as engineer Scott Petito and bassist Anthony Molina, Jonathan and Grasshopper quickly found their stride recording themselves in their own basement studio as well as venturing out into the daylight to record tracks at some of their old haunts like NRS and White Light Studios. Ken Stringfellow was on hand to contribute backing vocals at his studio Son du Blé studios in Paris.
