Mega Bog AKA: Erin Elizabeth Birgy has shared “Love Is” featuring Westerman, the latest single off her forthcoming album, End of Everything, out May 19th on Mexican Summer. It is accompanied by a strange, B-Horror-esque film directed by Allison Goldfarb. This summer, Birgy will play a handful of shows in the US and UK in support of End of Everything.

“Love Is” is a soaring anthem that further explores Birgy’s more direct songwriting approach and new synth-heavy palette. It was originally written by Birgy’s close friend Austin Jackson of jazz-punk band Dragons, who Birgy met in Flagstaff, AZ while touring over a decade ago. Birgy explains: “Austin wrote some of the most shameless and relatable love ballads of all my friends, but presented them through punk bands filled with musical witches practicing sex magic publicly in the smallest, wettest, and most haunted basements. Another close friend, Tristan Jemsek of Dogbreth, also covered ‘Love Is’, and has been an anthem in a specific circle of friends for over a decade. I’ve played a dance version for myself and at small, secret shows for years, and finally felt like it was time to share my version with the world.”

“Love Is” also features backing vocals from Westerman, who helps seal the fated dancefloor transcendence Birgy had long been dreaming of by lending a thick yearning spirit and voice to the track. Of the collaboration, Birgy states: “The magic of ‘Love Is’ 100 percent needed a counterpart to plead through the reckoning of love imagined, love’s reality, and Westerman was a noble companion through this musical voyage.”

End of Everything was recorded with James Krivchenia (Big Thief) who co-produced the record with Birgy and played drums, bringing his rhythmic mastery and wild percussive spirit. Krivchenia also mixed the record and co-engineered it with Phil Hartunian. The album’s fantastical textures and heavy polyphony owe a great deal to synthesizer maestro and pianist Aaron Otheim. Zach Burba, one of the founding members of Mega Bog, plays bass, while Will Segerstrom, Meg Duffy (Hand Habits), and Jackson Macintosh (Drugdealer, TOPS) contribute electric guitars.
