Mariee Sioux has collaborated with Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star and opened for such greats as Joanna Newsom and Buffy Sainte-Marie. Today, she announces her third record Grief In Exile, due out June 7 on Night Bloom Records. Unlike some of Sioux’s more stream-of-consciousness earlier work, this album comes from a more refined and deeply personal space. The songs show how indigenous remembrance, plant medicine, and ceremonial traditions played an important role in Sioux’s recovery from alcoholism, depression, and intense heartbreaks.

Ahead of Grief In Exile’s, has shared a new clip for “Snow Knows White.” The video was filmed in Bolinas, California, also where Sioux wrote the song following a difficult breakup. “I penned this song in a day as if it immediately had to be born to start the transformation process to move on and heal from a very entrenched love affair,” says Sioux, “an experience that left me shaken and grasping to reclaim myself.”
