Dublin four-piece Cloud Castle Lake are proud to reveal their first feature-length score for Irish independent production The Meeting. The soundtrack is out worldwide today via Bright Antenna Records.
Speaking of the soundtrack, Daniel McAuley reveals: “This was our first feature length score and we feel very honoured that it’s been part of such a powerful, unforgettable film. We were lucky to work with Alan Gilsenan, the director, who is a very trusting collaborator and he encouraged us to follow our own intuition with it. One of the things that struck us when we watched the film was the surprising contrast between the ceremonious restrained nature of the meeting and the enormity of the emotions under the surface. We wanted the emotion in the music to feel buried under layers of effects and to feel like it was occurring in some boundless space outside of the small room where it all takes place.”
About ‘The Meeting’
Prolific Irish director Alan Gilsenan has throughout his career frequently addressed issues of social interest. Following the success last year of documentary Meetings With Ivor and the release earlier this year of fiction feature Unless, The Meeting blends the two forms in a dramatized recounting of actual events. A wordless introduction offers the audience just enough detail to realize the savage violence with which a young woman was sexually assaulted, and understand the context in which, nine years later, she sought a meeting with her attacker as part of the process of restorative justice. The film’s retelling of this encounter takes place on a single set, making for a claustrophobic, harrowing experience on which some light ultimately shines as the woman finds comfort in humanizing the man across from her, and impresses upon him a greater understanding of the consequences of his actions
