Madeline Kenney has shared a new video off her surprise EP, Summer Quarter. The new video is for her track “Superstition” and displays a lavender colored portrait background, crumpling and billowing as it responds to its natural surroundings in front of cityscapes and vistas. The video was directed and realized by Derek Janzen and filmed in British Columbia.
Derek Janzen on the video:
“Getting a video project off the ground has been increasingly challenging to navigate due to the tightening covid restrictions here in British Columbia over the past few months. Madeline and I have been talking about working on a project for a couple of years now and by the time it came to go ahead, the old ways of finding willing friends to feature or assist in a production became out of the question.
What I ended up settling on is somewhat of a response to my inability to safely interact with human subjects the way that I’m used to working. Instead of a photography backdrop serving as a companion to a human portrait of some kind, I wanted to see if there was something that could be said by making that object the focus of our attention. The hope is that the lack of a traditional subject reveals something through the altering of our expectations.”
