Lutalo has shared “Running,” their new single/video with Claud. “Running focuses on a stressed parent-child relationship,” says Lutalo. “A story of a child feeling neglected, only to be acknowledged when a problem is deemed large enough that the parent feels obligated to care about it. Though there is pain and resentment built within these interactions, the child still reaches out for the attention of their parent. Only to be continuously let down and pushed away.”

“With this song, my goal was to produce something that felt like a nostalgic indie pop track,” continues Lutalo. “Claud had the perfect voice for the idea and filled the role well. They understood the direction and feeling I was going for and really delivered. I wanted something that not only showed my flexibility as a producer but was catchy and allowed the listener to have fun.”

“Running” follows Lutalo’s AGAIN EP released earlier this year on Winspear, their collaborative single with Lomelda (“Darkeve Duet”), and a recent tour with Blonde Redhead. This March, Lutalo will embark on a massive U.S. tour supporting Andy Shauf. A full list of dates is below and tickets are on sale now.

After releasing their 2022 debut EP, Once Now, Then Again, the 24-year-old born Lutalo Jones caught the attention of Fleet Foxes’ Robin Pecknold and Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker, who invited the young musician on tour. Along with the vinyl release of that project, they released its companion EP, AGAIN, Recorded in a cabin with friend and collaborator Patrick Hintz, Once Now, Then Again is acoustic-driven and gentle, like the lush natural environment of the forest thrush, while AGAIN is potent and knotty, like the restless inner workings of Lutalo’s mind. Through their music, but also through their lifestyle that’s alternative to America’s economic and political systems, Lutalo asks listeners to imagine new possibilities: “I want to help people question the way they’re living so we can create a better reality for us to exist in together.”
