Local Natives releases a double A-side single, “Desert Snow” and “Hourglass”. Inspired by a Joshua Tree trip, Desert Snow is about the duality of vulnerability and strength; both relying on the person you love and being someone they can rely on. “There’s so much I wanna tell you / more than you could ever know”. “After the heartbreak and insanity of the past few years, when we finally got together to make music again, these songs reconnected and reignited us,” commented Local Natives.

Based in Los Angeles, the group progressed their sound over the course of four full-length albums, Gorilla Manor [2009], Hummingbird [2013], Sunlit Youth [2016] and Violet Street [2019].

Hourglass is a warm, gleaming track beginning with breezy acoustic guitar strums, slowly shaping into an anthemic chorus backed by buzzy synths and bucolic vocal harmonies. Of the song, Local Natives say, “It explores the difficulty of feeling divided and isolated from the people we love while knowing the time we have with them is finite, and contains some of our favorite LN lyrics:

What I know now I didn’t then /
I know you wish I could forget
We’re drawing lines in the sand /
inside an hourglass

This music got us through some really difficult times and reminded us how much joy we get out of playing music together. We couldn’t be more excited to share these songs and play them live on our first tour in two years!”
