Baby’s All Right, an iconic pillar of the Brooklyn music scene, hosted a benefit show on Wednesday featuring a handful of bands and comedians, and indie rock band Porches headlining. The poster called it “a party for the Asylum Support Clinic, one of the most hands-on and vital organizations helping asylum seekers in New York City”. The night alternated between laughs and dancing, with short comedy sets between musical performances. The all Brooklyn-based comedy lineup featured Max Wittert, Honey Pluton, Charlie Badey, and Jaboukie Young-White, all of whom brought the perfect lightness and laughter to the event.

The musical performances of the night started off with More Eaze, Izzy Camina, Amiture Music, and Fantasy of a Broken Heart, before Porches took the stage around midnight. Overall it was a very danceable program of performances, between Izzy Camina’s bassy dance tracks and Fantasy of a Broken Heart’s psychedelic guitar art-rock. Baby’s All Right always provides the intimate feeling of dancing in a crowded basement with your friends, and a lineup of all local acts added to this cozy impression.

Porches’ headline set started off with the exuberant track “Okay” from his 2021 album All Day Gentle Hold. The rest of the set featured more tracks from that album as well as many from his most recent record “Shirt”, with his distorted vocals and heavy electric guitar filling the room when he performed songs like “Joker” and “Itch”. Frontman Aaron Maine has been a staple of indie rock for almost ten years now, since his acclaimed debut record “Pool”, and has played Baby’s All Right many times over his career. Towards the end of the set he performed fan favorite track “rangerover” which had the room screaming the song’s chorus “I wanna live, I wanna live” back at him.
