Lips of Strangers debut new single “Burn It Down and Start Over Again”

Lips of Strangers, shares “Lips of Strangers debut new single “Burn It Down and Start Over Again”, The track is off the New Jersey band’s forthcoming album Too Long For Lovers , available October 15th. Members of the group have toured with Hot Chip, French Horn Rebellion, Pink Flamingo Rhythm Review, and Ra Ra Riot.
Ahead of the album’s arrival, the group have shared “Burn It Down and Start Over Again” — a protest song and visceral reflection on the political climate in the United States over the past several years. Driven by a pulsing beat, twinkling melodies, and frontman Spencer Miles’ echoing, distorted vocals, the track delivers a bold call for systemic change. True to form, it blends the band’s signature shoegaze-inspired, synth-driven textures with tender, emotionally charged songwriting—striking a balance between dreamlike beauty and urgent unrest.
Miles shares: “Burn It Down and Start Over Again is a little different than the rest of the EP. While it’s mostly a compilation of love songs, this is the one protest song I was compelled to write. I actually started it in 2020 at the end of the first term of the current president, during the lockdown. And then he lost the election in 2020 and I wasn’t quite sure how to finish the song, so it sat on the shelf for 4 years. On November 6th, 2024, I spent the day in a bit of a despondent fog, unsure how to process my emotions. Late in the evening, I opened this track for the first time in years, and the song poured out of me incredibly easily. It’s one part political statement and one part my own way of dealing with my political grief. And at the end of the day, I’m not sure if my anger in this song is directed more towards the left for botching the election, or with the right for electing a fascist – but it’s definitely a bit of both.”
The five-track EP showcases the talents of Spencer Miles (guitar, bass, keys, vocals), Kate Victor (keys, vocals), Zach Abramson (bass), Tim Alworth (drums), and Jim Orso (drums, percussion). A triple threat, Miles also produced the record and serves as the group’s frontman.
