Geographer closes out the year by announcing two special record release headline shows to support his upcoming full-length album, A Mirror Brightly, out February 23, 2024. He will headline The Rickshaw in his former hometown of San Francisco on March 15th and then post-release, will celebrate at Lodge Room in Los Angeles on March 8th. Both shows are on-sale now. The headline shows follow a fall tour supporting Small Black on a sold-out North American run.

Today, he shares the latest single from A Mirror Brightly. The silky, “Learn How To Lose: Act 1,” is a personal track about love after loss. He explains, “It is a song about love, but more specifically, the kind of love that needs to have its shell chipped away before it can germinate. The beginning of a relationship is often spent in a space between terror and bliss, and after losing so many times before, sometimes that’s the muscle that gets developed, the muscle of loss. I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to make doomed relationships work, I very rarely let go of anything at the right time. There was a moment in my relationship with my now fiancé when our respective defense mechanisms were rubbing uncomfortably against each other, and we had to decide to either give up or to push through. I will forever be grateful to Mike of the past for deciding to do the latter. That was an instance of a trait that has been negative my whole life—my perseverance in the face of incontrovertible evidence to the contrary—being a boon when it mattered most.”

Formed in San Francisco, Geographer is the moniker for the now Los Angeles-based Mike Deni. Part social scientist, part troubadour, if Geographer is an expert at anything, it’s precisely chronicling life’s imperfections. He has headlined many national tours, played Outside Lands, Just Like Heaven, Firefly, Treefort, and other festivals, released three critically acclaimed albums, including 2021’s Down and Out In The Garden Of Earthly Delights, and has performed with such musical luminaries as K.Flay, The Flaming Lips, Young The Giant, Tycho, Ratatat, Betty Who, and Tokyo Police Club.
