UK multi-artist Laura Misch, is back with new single, “Alchemy”, The track is now available via One Little Independent Records (Björk, Bad Breeding, Glasser, Sarah Neufeld). The track’s production begins with an arpeggiated synth lullaby, played on a pocket piano – a sound that Laura finds deeply soothing and evocative. This choice was inspired by a recent interview that Laura held with electronic music pioneer Suzanne Ciani, who spoke about the “sensuality of synthesizers.” Captivated by this idea, Laura is keen to explore the softer, more intimate side of electronic music, using the pocket piano as the perfect vehicle to convey warmth and vulnerability.

The song’s production evolves as layers of piano and bass are introduced, gradually building into a powerful sonic landscape. One of the key features of ‘Alchemy’ is the saxophone, which Laura runs through various reverbs and granulators to create lush, textural clouds of sound. This use of breathwork through the saxophone offers a sense of expansiveness and release, gradually sweeping the listener into the song’s euphoric, transformative second half. The sonic progression from the tender, intimate pocket piano to the breathy, atmospheric saxophone symbolizes a personal growth.

Laura explains; “‘Alchemy’ is a song about our capacity to alchemise loss into love. It’s a song to send to anyone in the depths of heartbreak or shedding an old self.” The track reflects her own journey, one of transformation and healing, and invites listeners to experience that same catharsis.

The track also weaves in the acoustic warmth of Marysia Osu’s harp plucks, elemental percussion made from shell, stone, and grain, and a bassline that propels the song forward. This combination of delicate acoustic sounds with Laura’s evolving electronic elements represents a fusion of her previous projects ‘Sample The Sky’ and ‘Sample The Earth’. With ‘Alchemy’, Laura continues to blend the organic with the synthetic, emphasizing her deepening exploration of breathwork and sound modulation.

The rich, textural sound of ‘Alchemy’ not only marks the beginning of a new era for Laura but also serves as the perfect introduction to her upcoming Slow Tour. Starting in March, Laura continues her exploration of music’s potential for self-soothing, and returning with elemental sounds and beings in urban environments, inviting her audience into a space where live performance and conscious living converge. Through traveling by train, walking, and spending more days grounding in each city, the tour extends Laura’s practice of being engaged with community and environment at home, and hopes to cultivate these practices on the road, in response to her experience of burn out and travel anxiety with previous touring. Expanding her electro-acoustic palette and drawing from a lineage of female pioneers in electronic music, Laura’s one-woman show invites deep listening and contemplation through songs and sonic environments inspired by nature.
