“Laughing Academy” by Public Opinion ft: Patrick Kindlon

Denver band Public Opinion release their new album Perpetual Motion Machine on September 8th via Side One Dummy. Ahead of the EP’s arrival, the band have shared new single “Laughing Academy” featuring Patrick Kindlon of Drug Church. Public Opinion, includes drummer Austin Latare-Hart, guitarists Kevin Johnson and Brent Liseth, and bassist Sebastian Stanle.
Motion Machine explores the trials and tribulations of trying to balance your creative life with your real life. “It could be taken as ‘why are we doing this still?'” Hart half-jokes. “And, to be fair, I do often feel this way. I’ve shaped my life to allow me to create and perform music, so when you start getting diminishing returns, it can feel like ‘what the f*ck have I done to myself?'”
The new songs were recorded by Christian Gutierrez and mixed by Brett Romnes (Anxious, Oso Oso, I Am The Avalanche) and they pick up where Painted On Smile left off, dialing up the band’s catchy and confrontational blend.
“It could be taken as ‘why are we doing this still?'” Hart half-jokes. “And, to be fair, I do often feel this way. I’ve shaped my life to allow me to create and perform music, so when you start getting diminishing returns, it can feel like ‘what the f*ck have I done to myself?'” But Public Opinion’s determined stubbornness is part of their charm: this is music for the mutants, they’re going to make it whether you’re listening or not, but you’ll be happy that you did. “The tightrope walk between trying to pursue creative endeavors while also being a grown adult with responsibilities isn’t always fun,” says Hart. “but it certainly can be rewarding.”
