Love Won’t Save You is a short film and companion piece to Jam City Presents EFM, the new album from pioneering producer Jam City, in collaboration director Jouri David Hoepfner. A haunting and elegiac meditation on longing for escape and salvation, the film finds three sharply dressed ‘agents of the night’ (Seyram Ablavi, Aries Liu, Brandon Baucke) journey across the peripheries of an imagined capital, collectively searching for that brief moment of total, self-obliterating euphoria.

Taking its visual cues from such West German classics as Supermarkt (1974) and Christiane F.(1980), Love Won’t Save You is a nocturnal travelogue deep into the heart of an eerily depopulated city. It’s a city of carparks, trucking depots, glowing highways and gas stations. In the backs of cars, a strange new substance is consumed, heightening the senses and accelerating the music. The film renders the details of this midnight world with a dream-like beauty; the glow of a streetlamp on a red latex jacket, the beads of rain on a car window, the glam-punk purple of a feather boa pulled tight in the grey winter cold.

The film’s soundtrack and Jam City’s new album, Jam City Presents EFM, features ‘Redd St. Turbulence’ ft. Show Me The Body, the nocturnal disco house of ‘Times Square’ ft. Aidan, and the dance-pop of ‘Wild N Sweet’ ft. Empress Of. Tracks like ‘Touch Me’ with Clara La San and Aidan instil an 80s imbued midtempo drive into orange sunsets, while ‘LLTB’ featuring Wet evokes the genuine intimacy that can be felt through music.
