Personal Trainer shared “Intangible,” the first track off the band’s forthcoming album via Bella Union, out summer 2024. The song, This is the first of four remixes to be released from an upcoming EP which will also feature remixes by Warmduscher, Simon Raymonde and Parker Fans.

Commenting on Personal Trainer and the remix, James Petralli of White Denim says:

“I had the immense pleasure of seeing and hearing Personal Trainer for the first time at a familiar place during SXSW 2023. I arrived without any preconceived notions about the group, and the band blew me to bits within two tunes. My partner of over twenty years and I held hands in the back of a sweaty brick box, both of us eventually moved to tears by the group’s joyful and honest work. Through their music I again felt deeply connected to something within myself that I’m always risking leaving behind in every industry meeting or mind-numbing promotional obligation. That is the pure jubilation one can experience through experiencing or creating music with others. It is a great honor for me to be a small part of their creativity in offering my interpretation of their song ‘Intangible’. I hope that folks enjoy listening to it and I can’t wait to see what Personal Trainer does in the coming years. They are a beautiful group.”

Personal Trainer is currently touring with Pom Poko, which includes a performance at the Electric Ballroom in London tomorrow night. Summer festival appearances include Green Man, Lowlands and more. Their nascent state-of-flux has cemented into a steady seven-piece; along for the ride with Smit are Kilian Kayser (percussion), Leon Harms (drums), Mart Boumans (guitar/sax), Franti Maresova (guitars/vocals), Ruben van Weegberg (bass), and Abel Tuinstra (keys/synths), but Willem still welcomes the contrast with his recorded work. “When I make the record, it’s me calling the shots. But I can’t tell everyone exactly what to do every second when we’re on stage. There’s, like, shakers flying around or instruments being thrown all over the place, so I don’t have the capacity to control that. And that’s really exciting to me.”
