“I’m On Your Team” by Babehven

Babehoven have announce their debut album, Light Moving Time, will drop on October 28th via Double Double Whammy, ahead of the release, the Hudson, NY-based project led by Maya Bon has shared a video for lead single “I’m On Your Team.” Bon views light as one of life’s few fundamental truths. In times of pain, we often look to simple things we can rely on, and light is as reliable as they come. Light Moving Time revolves around Bon’s view of life as a confusing, jarring, and kaleidoscopic experience filled with contradictions, loss, and change. For Bon, this album was a necessary expository exercise. Light Moving Time encompasses tributes to loved ones and the power of community, experiences of trauma, and explorations of changing relationships, with self-reflections scattered throughout.

Babehoven will be hitting the road for a run of North American dates with Skullcrusher starting October 27, in Castskill, NY. Other dates include Brooklyn, Washington, and Philadelphia.

Lead single “I’m On Your Team” is a reminder that there are always people willing to come to our rescue. It’s an ode to support systems that are not only built on mutual love and respect. Sonically, it falls somewhere between a flowy country song and an ‘80s power ballad. The gorgeous video, directed by Evan Daves, features Bon and Albert in natural landscapes in upstate New York. “‘I’m On Your Team’ is about finding a way through the thickest of life’s hard moments,” says Bon. “It encapsulates a feeling that someone is out there thinking of you and holding your wellbeing in their heart, a feeling of innate kindness, care, and community support. From a production stance, we were inspired by the strange and melodramatic 1989 Roy Orbison song ‘You May Feel Me Crying.’ We wanted to make a somewhat ridiculous 80’s anthemic song and felt that ‘I’m On Your Team’ was just the right match.”

The Light Moving Time artwork (by painter Danielle Norris) embodies the album’s contradictions, fleeting moments, and nagging sense of progression and regression. Bon is painted as a headless figure, her face placed on her chest, slack-jawed, wide-eyed, and alert. At the center of the cover, appearing to be both moving forward and at rest, she stands with one leg outstretched and one leg behind her. “This whole album and the whole picture is frozen and moving all at once, which is kind of my experience of trauma,” Bon explains. Life may feel like it’s always changing states of matter, but luckily there’s one other constant besides the sunrise every morning: Bon’s compassionate, illuminating songwriting.
