dog eyes, are the Bay Area duo of Hailey Firstman and Davis Leach, they signed with Grand Jury (Samia, Twin Peaks) last year, releasing an album called holy friend. Today, the band are returning to announce a new EP entitled blue bird rain cloud available July 25th via Grand Jury Music. Today, they are sharing the EP’s first single, a track called “i remain.”

Where their debut for Grand Jury kept its focus small, their latest EP expands the aperture while maintaining the delicate sensibility of their last album.

“Many of these songs are about extremes, powerful joys and grievances,” says Firstman. “But they are not set right in the middle of the moments, the action, rather they are told like memories, hazy and gentle.”

Lead single “i remain” is built from simple parts: a patient acoustic guitar, hand claps in another room, and a swirling breeze of Firstman and Leach’s vocal. “You’re gonna give your loving heart away or I’ll remain, you stay the same,” goes the refrain. “It feels like a coming of age moment,” says Leach. “Coming to terms with how all things, including love, have to change over time for better or worse.”

He adds:

“”i remain” is a song that was lost in the obscurity of my voice memos for several years, until it was revived one day. The song itself has an ensemble of friends clapping, a handful of spoons, and a guitar that repeats over and over. Something about it makes me feel like a child!”
