binki has returned with “Hotel Window.” The artist’s first release since his debut album Motor Function. binki will be playing with The 1975 on their upcoming dates in Mexico.

binki sings on “Hotel Window” “I dig your foot inside my head / I wish, I wish it wouldn’t twist” he deadpans, contemplating the misleadingly idyllic environment around him while he’s plagued with overthinking. With new material written between London, Los Angeles, New York – and amidst the constant, restless motion of touring – even when figuring out his place in the world, binki still sounds more accomplished than most. ‘Hotel Window’ was produced by binki alongside Tim Randolph (Rico Nasty, glaive) and mixed by Justin Raisen (Yves Tumor, King Cudi.)

Introducing ‘Hotel Window’ for the first time today, binki comments: “I think this song started with looking at a hotel window as a good metaphor for feeling trapped. You know you can look out of hotel windows but most of the time you can’t open them. Sometimes I’ll come up with an idea or a bar and just kind of log it away in my memory. I was touring a lot and this writing trip took me away from home for a while and I was staying in hotels a lot so I think that’s where the idea came from. Essentially the song is me venting about my social anxiety. I think it can feel like a prison a lot of the time. You can see how it’s affecting you and the people around you but that doesn’t fix anything. If anything it gets worse the more you think about it. My anxiety is amplified when I’m on a date or talking to someone I’m attracted to, so I was mostly just harping about that in the verses. Yikes.”

Baraka Ongeri (binki) is a first generation American whose family originates from Kenya, he grew up in Pennsylvania before moving to New York in 2018, after getting a degree in acting at UNC Greensboro. His music is inspired by Siouxsie Sioux and King Krule to Tyler, The Creator and more.
