Southern California songwriter Eliza Vera shares and performs music as Hot Moms Club. Taking the moniker to heart, she dedicated one song this year, “i love you, mom” to her own mom. And now, she’s announcing her next EP to the Hot Moms Club devotees with the cheekily-named Welcome to the Club.

Her lead single “Trader Joe’s” is partly an ode to the grocery chain but it’s mostly a tribute to her time when going to the store was her only time to get solitude. The samba-inspired rhythm and the chilled out guitar chords gives the song a relaxing feel, even if the lyrics don’t suggest Vera is calm at the time she’s singing about (“maybe I should talk to somebody who cares / pour out my guts on the table right there”).

Vera said, “When I was writing this song, I lived in a storage closet — yes, an actual closet — of a house in north county San Diego. The house was kind of chaotic and it was hard to get alone time, so I would take a trip to Trader Joe’s for some peace and quiet. But it allowed me to gather my bearings and figure out my next steps at a pivotal time, and for that I’m grateful to that time, that place, and to Trader Joe’s.”
