Hot Chip have announced reissues of their albums for the first time ever. Together, The Warning, Made In The Dark and One Life Stand. These records are proof positive of Joe Goddard, Alexis Taylor, Owen Clarke, Al Doyle and Felix Martin’s lifelong friendship and musical chemistry, as well as of their youthful studio adventuring. To celebrate the reissues, there will be two parties next month in London and Liverpool where the albums will be played in full alongside DJ sets.

Having shared “Bally,” a B-side from The Warning era last month, today the quintet are pleased to share the squelchy and freaky “So Deep,” originally a Made In The Dark bonus track and previously unavailable digitally.

Made In The Dark came along two years after 2006’s The Warning, and despite being originally signed to a major label, Hot Chip had an unprecedented level of autonomy. “We were excited by the idea of doing something strange and vibrant,” says Goddard. “This record was a lot about freedom to experiment and make whatever kind of take on pop music that we wanted to make,” Taylor continues. They let their imaginations run ragged; “We weren’t afraid to veer from one thing to another in a space of one song,” adds Goddard. T

While their previous efforts were effectively bedroom studio albums, Hot Chip wanted to capture the chemistry of their live show in the recording sessions. What’s more, they “wanted to prove that ‘Over and Over’ wasn’t an anomaly,” says Doyle, who by this point was balancing Hot Chip band life with being in LCD Soundsystem. “It was very important for us as a band: we can still do this.” They did: Made In the Dark went to #4 in the UK in 2008, while “Ready For The Floor” broke into the UK Top Ten for the first time and, in America, was nominated for a GRAMMY. There’s even a knowing dig at James Murphy on the track ‘Wrestlers,’ an “unashamed” attempt at an American R&B cut circa 1994. “We wrote that at the point that Al started playing with them,” says Goddard, “so it was a joke idea of fighting James Murphy for Al.” “He had texted me saying you can’t have him back, I’ll wrestle you for him,” says Taylor, so we wrote a song around it.
