“High Rise” by Cadence Weapon

Cadence Weapon has shared his video for “High Rise.” The clip, described as an audiovisual essay explores timely topics and speaks truth to the current climate of gentrification, urban spaces and the evolution of metropolitan life. Filmed in Toronto’s downtown core, the video was directed by Lester Millado and produced by Toronto creative collective, PIQUE, with choreography by Caden Mackinnon and Chantelle Mostacho. “High Rise” (produced by Jacques Greene) is from Cadence Weapon’s much anticipated, new self-titled album, released on January 19 via eOne Music. The album is his first since 2012’s Hope In Dirt City.

“High Rise was inspired by my experience looking for a place to live when I first moved to Toronto. It made me imagine a demonic real estate agent chanting at me to give up the search for a house, to move into a condo,” Cadence says of the inspiration for the track. “I think many people are dealing with rampant gentrification and the erosion of community today so I decided to write a protest song about it.”

The album features appearances from Deradoorian, Blue Hawaii, Brendan Phillip and Casey MQ, and tracks from producers, Kaytranada, Francis Got Heat, Jacques Greene and Harrison. The 12-track album is a reintroduction to Cadence Weapon as an artist, and he’s excited for the world to experience this new beginning.

The album features other singles including independence anthem, Large, self-assured verses on Don’t Talk To Me (prod. FrancisGotHeat), and the Kaytranada-produced, My Crew (Woooo).
