hey, nothing debut new single “Long Time Leaver” ft: Bea Porges

hey, nothing are the Athens, GA-born and bred best friend duo Tyler Mabry and Harlow Phillips. The duo met as middle school classmates and soon found playing music together was an anchor as both weathered fraught, traumatic upbringings and sorted out their own identities. They recently announced their new album Hound, will drop on August 21 via Music Soup / Interscope Records. Today, hey, nothing share a taste of the forthcoming record with “Long Time Leaver.” Featuring Bea Porges, this song, fusing pain with warmth, finds Phillips thinking back to all the time they spent receding from family and now missing the good times you can’t get back. hey, nothing will bring Hound on the road later this year for a five-week North American tour, followed by a UK/EU run.
“”Long Time Leaver” pokes fun at the strange nature of touring or traveling,” the band explains. “It is about the internal guilt we feel every time we leave home for extended periods of time. Through this song, we look through the eyes of our parents and how it must seem for them when we miss holidays or certain major life moments – there’s a loneliness for both those who leave and those who have been left. But it’s also about letting go of that shame in order to grasp the privilege in reach and use it for good rather than wasting it.”
For six years they spent nearly every day together, school days pivoting to months on tour, with the two living together in between. There was so little room to breathe, to process all the highs and lows of what each had seen, they reached an impasse: To avoid breaking up before the band truly came into focus, the duo had to rediscover their friendship and their love for making music.
“i haunt ur dreams” was how most people found out about the band, including Tommy Trautwein, who became their co-producer, collaborator, and bassist. The band have played with Cage The Elephant, and have appeared at including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and more.
