Los Angeles duo Harry the Nightgown is the creative duo of Spencer Harting and Sami Perez (bassist for Cherry Glazerr & The Shes), they met playing shows in San Francisco, and now are both engineers at John Vanderslice’s Tiny Telephone Studios. The songs that comprise their self-titled debut LP were written while recording, songs shapeshifting and transforming right up until the tape stopped spinning. The end result is an exhilarating journey of pop experiments, at times as wild as Dirty Projectors or Deerhoof. Recently, the band released their wonderful new album track “Pill Popin’ Therapist.”
Sami Perez on “Pill Popin’ Therapist”
This song is exciting to me because it came from a riff I was messing around with while Spencer was getting a guitar tone for a different song. But we liked the riff so much that we just started working on it, and eventually built the whole song in the studio that day. It was inspiringly spontaneous for us as new collaborators in both songwriting and production.
