“These Hands” by Samm Henshaw

Samm Henshaw recently released his second EP, The Sound Experiment 2, via Columbia Records this summer (with new song “These Hands”). He has since been hand-picked to support Chance The Rapper for his European shows later this year, as well as a festival run including Afropunk Festival, Northside, Best Kept Secret, Werchter and Barn on The Farm.

‘The Sound Experiment 2’ is the second, EP from the soulful 22-year-old. The lead track “Our Love” was inspired directly by Samm’s childhood growing up in South London, and the experience of his parents (who are originally from Nigeria). “I wrote ‘Our Love,” he says now, “about a story my Dad tells from when he first started dating my Mum: his family didn’t approve, but he didn’t care.” Elsewhere on The Sound Experiment 2, second track ‘These Hands’ is a mission-statement to honing your craft, and being able to do anything when you put the work in. “Nightcalls”, meanwhile, is more stripped-back and tranquil, whilst the beat-heavy ‘Chances’ and the soaring ‘Easy’ colour-in the EP’s broad mix of influences (from D’Angelo and Stevie Wonder to Frank Ocean, and the gospel greats).
