Saddle Creek records, recently announced Wildfire Covers, the EP features covers of Hand Habits‘ song “wildfire” performed by Angel Olsen, Lomelda, Kacey Johansing, Tara Jane O’Neil and John Andrews & The Yawns – as well as the original. “wildfire,” a song written during the California Wildfires in 2017, is off Hand Habits’ album, placeholder. Last month Hand Habits shared Lomelda’s cover of the song. Today, they have shared Kacey Johansing’s offering of the track.

Hand Habits, in partnership with Saddle Creek and Bandcamp, will be donating 100% of the profits raised from this campaign to the Amazon Conservation Association, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, that has been protecting the western Amazon for almost 20 years.

Once the fundraising goal is met, the vinyl will be put into production and the entire EP will be released exclusively via Bandcamp. More info about the campaign, which ends in 7 days and features 3 different pledge levels, can be found HERE.

Of Johansing’s cover, Duffy says “I met Kacey while recording Kevin Morby’s City Music in Stintson Beach, CA. She was living in Northern California at the time, and a few years later I was invited to see her in Los Angeles at a house show that happened to be her new place down in LA. Watching her perform brought me to tears and since then we’ve been musical collaborators and deep friends. Kacey occasionally joins me on the road playing in Hand Habits, and she’s someone that I admire musically and lean on a lot as a confidant. She played her version of Wildfire for me while we were all on tour and I remember thinking “damn…I wish we had recorded the song like this!” I was completely moved by the simplicity and emotion Kacey brought to the song and it’s structure. The song, to be honest, has never felt like ‘my’ song and hearing it played so in these different contexts has opened my perception to the song and how it can be presented in so many different ways. ”
