Hamilton Leithauser, frontman of The Walkmen, has dropped his new solo single “Burn the Boats”, the song is off his forthcoming album This Side of The Island, available March 7th, 2025 via Glassnote Records. Co-produced by Leithauser, Aaron Dessner (The National, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams); and Hamilton’s wife Anna Stumpf.

Hamilton Leithauser will return to Café Carlyle for his seventh annual residency in March 2025, marking his longest run at The Carlyle to date. Leithauser will once again bring his unique blend of indie rock and timeless melodies to the iconic Upper East Side cabaret, in an intimate setting, including surprise guests and special performances.

Hamilton loves working on his own schedule at his home studio in New York, The Struggle Hut, but after eight years of playing myriad instruments, a visit to his old friend Aaron Dessner’s upstate Long Pond Studio in the Spring of 2024 is what finally brought the album home. Dessner, known for his work with The National, Taylor Swift, and Gracie Abrams, and many more, introduced a modern sound, and played various different instruments on nearly every track.

Hamilton Leithauser on “Burn the Boats”:

“I finished this song in the spring of 2024, and then in the summer my friend sent me a link to a Joe Rogan event called Burn the Boats. At first I thought, “Oh fuck. Aw shit. Oh fuck this shit!!!”, but then I listened to Joe Rogan’s podcast for the first time, and I learned that he has absolutely no idea what he is talking about and I don’t care about his nonsense. My song is about being at a party, falling in love with someone, and deciding you want nothing more than to go home with them. At the same time, the party’s now kinda boring, and you’d really like to speed up the process. ‘I wanna go home!’ Who can’t relate to that? I wrote a backup line for my friend Lachrisha, which was definitely inspired by Funkadelic, and the guitar playing was definitely inspired by David Bowie’s ‘Low’.”
