Gus Dapperton has announced his new album, 4 Dear Life, will drop on October 23rd via ALTER Music. With the news, the New York City multi-artist has shared new single and self-directed music video for “Queen.” The album includes contributions from Ledbyher, A-Trak, spill tab, and hard life. Gus has also announced two shows, in Los Angeles at Zebulon on October 29th, and one in New York at Mercury Lounge on November 5th. “Queen” follows previous single “Take Me Out To The Disco,” The forthcoming LP, is his first album in three years. 4 Dear Life takes its title from the expression “holding on for dear life,” and Gus describes the album as his attempt to find hope in times of struggle.

“Queen,” which initially materialized with some guitar chords, eventually grew into the track Gus is most proud of. “I’ve been so pissed off the last couple years about the state of the world,” he explains, and he channeled that energy into a song about the tyranny of men. “I wanna be one of the girls,” he sings on the hook, vocals unfiltered as he expresses a complex yearning to escape a game: gender and its socially inscribed roles.
