“Green Blade” by Hermitess

Hermitess, is the musical project of Jennifer Crighton, today they have announced new album Death & The Fool, described as “a deeply personal meditation on ancestry, transformation, and the cycles of life.” The album, is set to arrive on May 1, 2025. Ahead of the album’s arrival, Hermitess has shared lead single, “Green Blade,” alongside a music video.

“Green Blade” finds Crighton revisiting a childhood hymn learned while dancing around a maypole at her Waldorf school. Although initially penned as a Christian hymn, the song’s themes of rebirth and resilience resonate with older, earth-based traditions. The track is a swirling, trance-inducing piece, rich with layered harmonies, and the instrumentation—a fusion of harp, hurdy-gurdy drones, and the jangle of a 12-string electric guitar—builds into a ritualistic invocation of spring’s return.

The accompanying video expands on these folkloric themes, drawing inspiration from Crighton’s Orkney Island ancestry and reflecting the unpredictable seasonal shifts of Alberta. A visually arresting homage to land-based customs, the video bridges ancient traditions with contemporary storytelling, immersing the viewer in a world where myth and memory intertwine.

Live Performances currently include: Jennifer Crighton, Chris Dadge, Keith Rodger & Richard Gallant
