Fancy Gap, is comprised of Stuart McLamb from The Love Language and songwriter/producer Charles Crossingham, today released their single, “Gold Coast.” The song addresses themes of the closeness of love and the distance it can bring, along with chasing new horizons while reflecting on what was left behind. Crossingham states, “The song is about what happens when you keep chasing a new horizon but can’t shake what you left behind.”

The track was initially conceived as a driving rock song. However, the final direction stemmed from a recording by McLamb of a one-take performance using only guitar and voice, captured live on a single microphone. McLamb recalls, “It was just supposed to be a test to see if the song would work stripped down.” Crossingham’s reaction to the test recording influenced the final production, with him stating, “There’s something magic here. Don’t lose this feeling.”

“Gold Coast” was recorded and mixed by Grammy Award-winning engineer Craig Alvin (known for work with Kacey Musgraves and Real Estate) at Nobel Steed Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL. Crossingham commented on the final product, “You can hear that tension in the way it breathes—it never tries to be perfect; it just feels honest.”

The track is accompanied by a video created by editor Jessica Ledoux (editor for Netflix’s All the Light We Cannot See and HBO’s Vinyl). The video is a visual collage compiled from years of McLamb and Crossingham’s personal camera footage. Regarding the video’s focus, McLamb noted, “This video isn’t about us as a band; it’s about everything that makes life worth writing songs about.” Crossingham added, “The song and video feel like your life flashing before your eyes. It’s powerful to see all those years of footage woven together into one big memory. I’ve known Jessica since I was 15, so collaborating on this with her felt full-circle. Stu had a great vision for what this could be, and it all just clicked.”
