Sports Team today share new single and video for “Going Soft.” The video was filmed by friends and fans over the last year, and is off their forthcoming release Deep Down Happy. Sports Team will be playing the Minecraft digital festival Block by Blockwest on May 16th. They’ll grace Stage Two at 4:40 PM EST with all proceeds from the festival going to the Coronavirus Emergency Respond Fund.

Speaking on the song, frontman Alex Rice says: “It’s a short history of the last two years really, ending with the last show before all this happened at our local, The Nags Head. Hopefully the whole thing is a reminder of how good live music can be, that if you’re a kid who should be going to their first show about now then live music isn’t an acoustic cover on IG Live, it’s something really special.”

Their debut album Deep Down Happy, touches on the trials and tribulations, the hopes and the dreams, of young Brits, will be released June 19th on Island / Bright Antenna Records. A now pertinent album title, the songs on Deep Down Happy are sharply drawn pen portraits of small-town torments, inequality and ultimately escapism. Documenting modern Britain in all its messy complexity, the album is a succession of vivid snapshots of the follies, foibles and frustrations of youth. Sports Team calls to mind a loving but fractious family, bickering one minute, weeping with laughter the next. The bands album In-store tour will be moved to a later date due to the unprecedented circumstances.
