Future Islands share new track, release new split 7″ Ed Schrader’s Music Beat for Less Artists More Condos

LAMC #2 7″ out next week, available digitally now. All digital proceeds go to charity in honor of the late LAMC
founder Ariel Panero. Future Islands, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, and Darlings blow out Death By Audio this Wednesday July 11th.

In loving memory of their dear friend and label partner, the late Ariel Panero, the Brooklyn-based label Famous Class started the Less Artist More Condo series of 7″s. The series gets its name from the epic Less Artists More Condos concerts that Ariel threw, showcasing amazing bands in some strange and unique venues. Ariel’s driving force was a desire to get the bands he believed in the recognition he felt they deserved. This series simply tries to honor that idea. For each LAMC split 7” Famous Class asked one of their favorite bands to provide them with an unreleased track for the A-side. They were then asked to pick their favorite emerging artist to provide a track for the B-side. Like how Ariel’s LAMC shows introduced New Yorkers to bands they might not have otherwise discovered – Famous Class hope that this series will do the same.

For the next installment in the series, Baltimore’s Future Islands contribute a dreamy new song called “Cotton Flower” which is a song about holding a bulb of cotton up to the sun, and dissecting its strange beauty while sitting in a field with someone you love. For the flipside they invited minimalist pop-punk act Ed Schrader’s Music Beat to join them on the release offering up two tracks on the b-side, “Blue Stamped Britches” and “Beautiful Transvestite”. The 7″ will be out July 17th, a day before what would have been Ariel’s 27th birthday.

Famous Class will be putting on a celebration of the release and Ariel’s contribution to the music community with a special show at Death By Audio on July 11th featuring Future Islands, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, and slacker-popsters Darlings.

The digital versions of LAMC No. 2 will be available for purchase on the FAMOUS CLASS bandcamp page with 100% of the proceeds going to the Ariel Panero Memorial Fund at VH1 Save the Music. Currently LAMC No. 1 can be purchased featuring A Place to Bury Strangers and Ceremony.

FUTURE ISLANDS

Formed in January 2006, Future Islands began as a 4-piece in the small college town of Greenville, NC. Shortly after recording their debut album, their drummer quit, leaving them a trio. The band made the move to Baltimore, over some months, in the winter of 2007 to the summer of 2008. They have continued to work and release material, while extensively touring North America & Europe.

Future Islands are: William Cashion (guitars), Gerrit Welmers (synths & programming), Samuel T.Herring (words & voices)

Ed Schrader’s Music Beat

Before Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, the project was just Ed Schrader (der!) looping wiggy sounds to pounding drums. A 10” from four years back documents this era, though a tape on Fan Death was issued in December 2011. In 2009 Devlin Rice (also of Nuclear Power Pants) joined Ed for a one-off show. This mind meld took the left field paranoid pop that Ed was composing and added a powerful low end power chug from the jug of eternal rock and raised the whole project a more visceral live experience. Since then the band has done considerable touring with acts such as Future Islands, Lightning Bolt, Dan Deacon and really whipped up some enthusiasm based on their minimal and real rock vision. This is not rock designed for centerfolds of industry magazines as much as music to burn you.
