fanclubwallet has shares the single/video, “Roadkill.” The music, is the Ottawa, Canada artist’s is the follow-up to her debut album You Have Got to Be Kidding Me in May.

In Judge’s words; ‘Roadkill’ is basically about the way men put female musicians or just women in general up on strange pedestals – idolizing and viewing them as an object or prize to be won. Something I’ve noticed since becoming a public-facing ‘female musician’ is that the number of strange and uncomfortable interactions with men I’ve had to deal with has drastically increased. I’ve heard horror stories from friends about being a touring musician and being followed, harassed, or worse. I have always wanted to release a song on Halloween, and when I wrote this one it was 1. The most intense song I’d ever made, and 2. It Included a lot of horrors that are personal to me, so I felt like it was the right song to fulfill my dream of a Halloween release.”

The accompanying video was directed and edited by Judge and features her in autumnal woods and in a darkly lit field, quite literally turning into roadkill. “It’s a simple video reflecting my love of horror movies while utilizing my experience with practical visual effects and horror makeup,” she says. “When I was younger I would fake sick and stay home from school. I would watch horror makeup tutorials and my mom would always come home to me with some wacky horror makeup on. The video’s series of slow zoom-out shots that reveal that I’ve been wounded reflect the lyrical theme on ‘Roadkill’ and feeling hunted.”

fanclubwallet’s You Have Got To Be Kidding Me in May, a record about growing pains, turbulence, and setting aside your chill facade to decide what you do and don’t want to put up with. As a songwriter, Judge has a wicked sense of humour, “I deserve to be/with someone who hurts me/So I’ll spend all my time with myself,” she sings on album single ‘Gr8 Timing!’ with an air of ennui as staccato guitars build into drum machines and pop punk synth runs. Another album highlight was ‘Trying to Be Nice’, which surges with guitar and bright, driving synth, and buzzes with a danceable melody. Also on the record is earlier single ‘That I Won’t Do’, a track about learning to re-socialise which echoes sentiments captured in fanclubwallet’s 2021 debut EP Hurt Is Boring. That EP – full of punchy, idiosyncratic pop songs – brought a new meaning to the term bedroom recordings, as it was made while Judge suffered a Crohn’s disease flare-up which left her bedridden in her childhood home for 10 months.
