Singer/songwriter Elissa Mielke, who relocated to Los Angeles to pursue her musical career, has announced her new EP Finally, out June 11th on slashie/Mom + Pop alongside a lyric video for “Trying”. The visual is an exploration of her own relationship with her inner critic, and a journey to exist freely in her own skin, paired with found footage of Elissa alone in different natural settings. Mielke reflects honestly on her own inner resistance, singing, “whether you float, whether you fall, whether you come to light, or come back to me at all, if you can walk, you can crawl…. how do you let go, when you’re on your own?”

“Trying” follows the official video for “Palace”, Mielke’s first offering from the EP. Rooted in folk, the expansive indie rock ballad builds into Mielke’s powerful appeal for both her and her lover to live up to promises, simply asking, “can you please be who I hope you are?”. Mielke’s music is both a reflection of her musical upbringing in a religious family in rural Canada and a rebellion against limitations set by those same surroundings. Musically, she is inspired by a deep love for songwriting, following in the storytelling tradition of women like Tori Amos, Bonnie Raitt, Ani DiFranco, Lucinda Williams, and Carole King. After traveling the world as a model and leaning into the Toronto music scene, Mielke arrived in Los Angeles in 2019. Mielke will take over The Drake’s instagram in Toronto on Thursday April 29th and perform for Los Angeles’ School Night At Home on Monday May 17th.
