“Dream of the Machines” By Simon Doom

Simon Doom share new single, "Dream of the Machines."

“Dream of the Machines”, the second single from Simon’s upcoming debut full-length Babyman, premiered this morning on BlackBook Media. It has a decidedly 80’s new wave vibe, at once nostalgic and contemporary. It has a very positive vibe to it as the guitars and synths are playfully arranged over a midtempo percussion and handclaps. “Dream of the Machines” follows “I Feel Unloved” which premiered a few weeks ago on Noisey and was featured on Spotify’s New Music Friday.

Simon Doom is the solo project form Kuroma/MGMT guitarist, Simon O’Connor. Despite having toured and written with so many prominent acts over the course of his career, this is Simon’s first time stepping out into the frontman role and the result is beautiful. At times this records varies from Talking Heads inspired 80s New Wave to Dinosaur Jr-esque 90’s low fi. Each track has an undeniable bounce and sense of positivity despite the often serious lyrical content.

Simon worked with Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser from MGMT, who co-produced the record. He’s also has guest appearances from Cam Avery of Tame Impala and Anni Rossi, on the record.
