Maple Glider has shared “Do You,” a track of her album I Get Into Trouble – this Friday Oct 13 via Partisan/Pieater. Ahead of the release, she has shared album opener “Do You” with an accompanying music video.

At the time of writing “Do You,” Maple was in a new city, bonding joyously with a new friend, and being included in their family circle. This caused her to realise how distant she was from her own, and created a longing for better understanding, whilst also accepting her own culpability thanks to stubbornness inhibiting the closeness she desired. She shares: “For me this song holds the feeling of being frustrated by someone who refuses to see who you are, no matter how much you put yourself in front of them, until eventually, you retreat. It’s also about the self-obsession that can come as a result of that, the fixation on identity, complicated feelings of inadequacy, and the search for meaning and significance in failing relationships. As always, there are many sides to the sphere, the ball just keeps spinning.”

Maple Glider is the project of Tori Zietsch. Her songs are an immediate doorway to deeply personal storytelling, shared with an edge of wry humour, over melodies and delicately balanced indie-folk instrumentation. ‘I Get Into Trouble’ is a thematic expansion of her 2021 debut LP ‘To Enjoy is the Only Thing’, going into greater and clearer detail, as she delves back into her Christian childhood while deconstructing her relationship to her body, alongside concepts of consent and shame. Throughout the album, she draws parallels between religion and sexuality in novelistic detail, before landing on a note of hopeful optimism, and embracing a new life of peacefulness. “This album feels more like an opening up because there are things I wasn’t feeling ready to publicly share through songs, but now I finally feel ready,” she says.
