Soft Cuff started off in 2023, as a result of a reunion of longtime friends Brian Schanck and Mikey Bostinto. Rooted in instrumental, cinematic psych-groove, the band draws inspiration from funk, hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The duo enlisted two friends with deep roots in Tampa Bay’s indie community: guitarist Shane Schuch and multi-instrumentalist Tina Sanchez.

Over the past year and a half, the band have opened for Levitation Room and Adrian Younge, and played a sold-out album release show, and drew a large crowd for their NYC debut. Their sound has described as “fresh, compelling, and transcendently groovy,” drawing comparisons to artists like Khruangbin and BADBADNOTGOOD.

Today, the band have dropped “Dennis Quaalude (PTSD)” featuring rapper/vocalist 9henom dropping July 15th via Funk Night Records. Soft Cuff on the track, “Dennis Quaalude (PTSD) was written from a place of exhaustion and desperation and serves as a plea for change — in the systems that corrupt and oppress, and within ourselves. Finding the tones for this song was a lot of fun; I like all of the textures and dynamics, each part has its own identity that ties in well with the whole sonic vision. The music video was shot on 16mm film and is inspired by the dichotomy of chasing dreams versus facing reality in a late-stage capitalist society with Lynchian-esque visuals inspired by works in the medium from Michel Gondry, Steven Soderbergh, Spike Jonze, and David Fincher.”
