Cut Copy release “Still See Love,” the latest single is off their forthcoming album Moments, out September 5th via Cutters/The Orchard and DSPs. Dan Whitford says of the song’s creative process; “‘Still See Love’ was a tune that came together pretty quickly, written about a couple clinging to what’s left of a relationship as it slowly capsizes. My idea was to make a song that had a verse and chorus that came from different worlds. We tried to make the verses as loose and organic as possible, layering live bass, percussion and spaced out roomy drum sounds, inspired by hybrid disco-dub productions of artists like Arthur Russell, Francois K, and ESG. Then in the chorus the whole track empties out, going from a big cavernous space into a tiny one, driven along by a minimal stuttering synth rhythm. I love the sense of contrast we achieved in this song. It’s constantly flipping back and forth between worlds and it almost feels like it exists in two places at once.”

The band will be returning to North America for a run of live dates, starting November 10th. Other stops include NYC, Los Angeles, Chicago, and more.

Dan elaborates on the inspiration for the record; “Since our last album release, 5 years have passed. In that time I had a child, people around me fell in and out of relationships, the world went through a global pandemic and there has been a myriad of social and political upheaval. So I guess there’s been a fair bit on my mind, and for me making this album has been a way of processing it all. Stylistically everyone in the band loved the sonic palette of the last album. It felt clean, modern and emotive, but still like Cut Copy. We tried to keep that modern approach, but turn it into something more energetic, psychedelic and euphoric; seeing how that approach could evolve and work on a dance floor, not just an ambient context… Dance music is about connecting with one another after all. Euphoria bubbles away under the surface in most of the songs and I think that’s the Cut Copy DNA shining through.”

“Still See Love” follows previous singles “Solid” and “When This Is Over,” which first gave listeners a taste of this new era of Cut Copy. “When This Is Over” stemmed from an idea that the band had discussed for years: a song incorporating the voices of a children’s choir. The result was a magical song, boasting a bridge that featured a children’s choir from Candlebark School in Romsey VIC, conducted by Georgia Brook and recorded by James Cecil, a member of Architecture in Helsinki.
