Cults, compromised of Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion have shared their evocative new single, “Crybaby,” out today on IMPERIAL. “Crybaby” sees Cults making a welcome return with their first new music in two years. Cults will be hitting the road in a big way in the coming months, with their own headline tour, a stop at Lollapalooza, and supporting Vampire Weekend in the fall. The headline North American run kicks off August 1st. Fans can get early access to tickets by signing up at community.cultscultscults.com. Presale begins at 12 PM ET on Thursday, April 25.

On “Crybaby,” right out of the gate, symphonic bells toll above a tribal beat laced with a dissonant guitar riff. Shaky tambourine gives way to a swooning horn section, and Madeline’s croon echoes with a lament, “Crybaby, you waste a lot of time it seems.” The track keeps in the tradition of Cults cinematic sound, with a breezy, infectious hook. “Crybaby” was co-written by Oblivion and Follin and produced by Cults and longtime cohort Shane Stoneback.

Speaking about the new single, Cults comment, “‘Crybaby’ marks a new direction of exploration. We experimented with a lighter sound influenced by The Crystals, Joe Meek & Kraftwerk. A fun song but also a call out to both sides of codependency.”

Over the past few years Cults appeared on J. Cole’s 6x-platinum smash “She Knows” [feat. Cults & Amber Coffman] in addition to co-writing with everyone from G-Eazy to Freddie Gibbs.
