Courtney Barnett’s Premieres New Single

Courtney Barnett debuts new single via guerrilla performance

‘Nobody Really Cares If You Don’t Go To The Party’ is the new single from Courtney Barnett. Shot 48 hours ago and directed by Jon White, amidst an incendiary unannounced live set outside Camden Town tube station in the heart of London, it sees Courtney and the CB3 bringing Camden High Street to a stand-still, as the band power through the track underneath a billboard emblazoned simply with the song’s humorous title.

It follows months of teasing, with scores of identical giant billboards, posters, and even murals springing up around the world like the one in the video; all declaring the same unattributed statement, in that same inimitable hand-writing. Like so many of her lyrics, it’s a sentiment that’s struck a powerful chord, and one that neatly sums up what so many have been falling in love with about Courtney. Whether you’ve been in London, New York, Los Angeles, Melbourne or Sydney, it’s become a common sight to catch a glimpse of fans and amused newcomers alike- snapping a pic or posing for a selfie in front of one of the spotted prints or murals.

The print campaign was first preceded by the mysterious minute-long teaser clip ‘Courtney Stays Home’ directed by Gabriel Gomez. A play on the song’s chorus lyric “I wanna go out but I wanna stay home’, now juxtaposed by the ‘going out’ of the guerrilla-gig official video clip, the teaser features a sleeping Courtney slamming the snooze switch on an alarm clock waking her up to her own single.

The song itself is from captivating debut album Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit. Having sold out her North American tour and playing main stages at festivals around the country, Courtney Barnett will return to the US opening for Blur in October at Madison Square Garden and Hollywood Bowl.
