Home Star’s new album A Binding Life was mostly written from 2020 to 2023 as the COVID-19 pandemic settled into an unnerving routine The record is a culmination of change, discovery, turmoil, and love. Home Star is the project of Evan Lescallette, founding member of MARIETTA. The LP was recorded at Philadelphia’s Hidden Fortress by Kieran Ferris and mastered by Todd Mecaughey, There are love songs, sad songs, angry songs, ballads, songs about religion, songs about loss, songs about home town news.

Says Evan Lescallette A Binding Life is a collection of songs written from about 2018 to 2024, and recorded, mixed, and mastered for the better part of 2025. I began writing and recording these songs in GarageBand and originally planned to form a full band to write and record the songs; however, after years of working on them on my own, I decided that I could probably do it myself, save for the drums, which were expertly written and recorded by Tim McMonigle, a dear friend and talented musician.

We recorded the drums with Kieran Ferris at Hidden Fortress, and after the drums were tracked, Kieran and I spent months together in the studio tracking the rest of the instruments and vocals. His input and presence was invaluable in crafting the album’s sound. These songs are an embrace of my earliest musical influences and a return to a sound and genre that rings most true to me as an artist. In retrospect, these songs were written throughout a significantly transitional period of my life. Interested listeners may hear themes of change, shame, family, love, fear, anxiety, patience, and acceptance.
