Coco have shared “Do This Right,” from their forthcoming album, 2, out March 1st via First City Artists. The track, follows the group’s which includes Maia Friedman (Dirty Projectors), Oliver Hill (Pavo Pavo), and Dan Molad (Lucius) lead single “Mythological Man.” Today’s single and album closer “Do This Right” invites listeners onto a patient wavelength, begging a lover to drop arms: “Release the fangs and the venom, remove the silk and the denim.” The accompanying, one-shot video was directed by Oliver and was shot in Chicago.

The band elaborates on the track: “Oliver got a nasty cold at the Richmond recording session and was out of commission for a few days in bed. That’s where he added verses to this chorus of Danny’s. One beautiful thing about wordless, minimalistic music is that the listener is given the opportunity to dial into small details without distraction – subtle shifts in the synths and guitars in the foreground, while Maia holds down the ticking clock on drums. This is Danny’s favorite-ever vocal take of Oliver’s – and they’ve made a lot of records together over the years!”

Since their self-titled debut, life has flown wildly forward for the members of Coco—Oliver getting married, Dan getting engaged, Maia giving birth to her first child. Amidst shifting currents, the practice of collaborative music-making has remained a profound and grounding constant. The band gathered for periods of time in Richmond, Virgina, working with Adrian Olsen (Lucy Dacus, Fruit Bats, Bedouine) at Montrose Recording, and in Joshua Tree, California, self-producing in an informal desert setting. Each member a writer, player, and artist in their own right, Coco embraced a freedom in fluidity—swapping seats, instruments, and vocal parts however intuition compelled. The resulting 2 is sensuous and spellike, as Maia, Oliver, and Dan arrive to each other empty-handed and open-hearted, finding power in three equal parts.
