Cass McCombs has released “Priestess.” The song is described “as an elegy, a statement of gratitude.” In writing “Priestess,” McCombs was inspired by a rekindling of his working relationship with Domino and the revisitation of his early material in last year’s re-issue campaign to get back to basics. “Priestess” sees McCombs returning to more economical song structures and to the people he worked with in the past, including Jason Quever (Papercuts) and Chris Cohen, two of his earliest musical cohorts. They recorded the new material in Northern California, not far from where they cut their musical teeth (as documented on last year’s archival release, Seed Cake On Leap Year).

This spring, Cass McCombs plays the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN this weekend before embarking on a North American solo tour supporting Beth Gibbons. He’ll support Father John Misty in Ireland and the UK in August, and MJ Lenderman in Los Angeles in September.
