Casi (“KA-ZEE”) is the musical project of of Eli Edwards (Enumclaw) and Xay Young, will release their self-titled debut CASI on June 19 via Carpark Records. Ahead of the LP’s arrival, the duo have shared lead single “JUMPER,” along with a video about crushing ICE and a boxing-inspired music video directed by Colin Matsui.

Growing up in Spanaway, WA – a Tacoma suburb and military-base town at the rainy northwest corner of the United States – Eli and Xay met each other in fifth grade after a soccer game celebration, quickly finding comfort in each other as two young kids who shared a resemblance in a predominantly white town. Throughout their 12-year friendship, making music together was a bonding experience they cherished. In 2024, Eli relocated to Los Angeles with the indie rock band, Enumclaw, he founded and Xay continued to use music as an outlet, expressing his feelings of being a young Black man with a complicated family while working menial jobs in Spanaway. As Eli would fly back to visit, spending more time in town meant more time with Xay, cutting tracks anytime their schedule allowed them.

The duo’s 10-track debut, experimenting with musical interests from hip-hop and hardcore to nü metal and emo influences. Tackling topics of isolation, heartbreak, mental health, familial and financial struggles and the current political climate, the album is told from the lens of two young Black 23-year-olds trying to find their footing in the world.

“We were supposed to play our first show down in LA at a venue close to downtown and due to the curfew placed around the ICE protests we weren’t able to do it,” Casi says about the inspiration of the song. “We ended up spending most of the day driving around the city trying to find something to do, seeing some really upsetting stuff. You’re on the freeway and a squad of 10 cop cars will fly by filled with 4 guys with AR’s, and we’re all thinking ‘for what?.’ They were putting peoples grandparents in cuffs and kids getting tear gassed, it just was all so dehumanizing. We were charged up, and it really comes through on this track.”
