Alex Amen, recently announced his signing to ATO Records, and to Rick Rubin’s American Songs / PULSE Music Publishing. Along with the news, the indie folk-country singer-songwriter shared the single, “Cabin By The Sea,” off his forthcoming debut album due late spring. At 18, Alex Amen moved from Texas to California to study filmmaking. After one semester he dropped out and moved onto the Dittman Family Commune, a commune with historic ties to the countercultural movements of the mid-60’s. It was here that he formed his first band in 2017 which broke up shortly after, resulting in Alex’s move from Southern California to an island in the Puget Sound of Washington State.

The next three years he spent in relative isolation, taking up various interests in mycology, mountaineering, poetry, and wooden boat building. As years passed, Alex felt the increasing need to return to California to pursue music. In January of 2023 he began self-producing his first EP The Zorthian Tapes (2025) in a self-built studio at the historic Zorthian Ranch in Altadena, California. Alex now lives in Los Angeles—releasing music among the growing Folk/Americana/Country scene in the city and performing his music across North America and beyond.

Alex’s proclivity for nature and his time spent on the Southern California commune, and in Washington state come through vividly in his music, as on today’s single, “Cabin by the Sea.” With a backdrop of pedal steel and guitar, Alex sings: “A bluebird sings, spreads its wings, and flies into the sky // And she often stops and watches and wonders how it’d feel to be so free // To fly off in the wind, high above the bend down around // Her cabin by the sea.” Alex is joined on the track by pedal steel player Tommy de Bourbon and instrumentalist Billy Mohler on bass.

This March, Amen begin a month-long New York City residency stretching across three boroughs. He’ll also perform at several festivals in the coming months including Willie Nelson’s Luck Reunion at SXSW, Analog Reunion Festival, and Green River Festival. Over the past year, he’s toured with Folk Bitch Trio, performed at festivals such as Pitchfork Festival London & Paris, Newport Folk Festival, Iceland Airwaves, Austin City Limits, Outside Lands, and more.
