BLONDSHELL Shares Video for "Salad" and Announces Tour with Liz Phair

Blondshell has released a new video for her “Salad,” the track is off her current self-titled album, now out via Partisan records. Inspired by the photos of Justine Kurland and shot at the Zorthian Ranch in Altadena, CA, the video tells a story of a trio of self-sufficient women – played by Blondshell, Rana Ghiassi, and Ruby Cruz (Mare of Easttown, Willow) – who spend a day in the forest they call home. We follow them as they awaken in their encampment and trounce through the woods, and through their intimate interactions and exchanges we come to understand their deep connection. Throughout the first act they assemble souvenirs from the forest — twigs, herbs, flowers etc. — that at first might resemble some sort of rustic bouquet. But we will soon learn that this assemblage has a sinister purpose — the trinkets they’ve collected are not decorations but ingredients…

Blondshell is also excited to announce that she will be opening for one her heroes when she hits the road with Liz Phair this fall. But first, she will embark on her first headline tour of North America this summer with sold out shows in Chicago, Toronto, Boston, NYC, and DC. The tour kicks off July 7 in Portland, OR and concludes at San Diego’s new Bleached Festival on August 5th. Brooklyn’s Hello Mary will be the support for most of the tour.

The biggest gift the pop machine gave her was the stark clarity of realizing that she didn’t quite belong there. Her music was increasingly too raw and intense to easily categorize, and after finishing her last full-on pop EP with producer Yves Rothman (Yves Tumor, Girlpool, Porches) at the start of the pandemic, she gave herself permission to write without expectation. She began penning songs just for herself, with no thought that she would release them. The process emboldened her. Subtracting self-consciousness became a catalyst for the lucid songs of Blondshell, on which her experiences all coalesce to form her truest expressions of self yet. “It was me, as a person, in my songs,” she says. When she showed a few to Rothman, he encouraged her to write an album, joining a chorus of friends saying, “This is you.”
